Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the psychological effects of the ¤§quine Assisted Psychotherapy/Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EAP/EFP) program on self-esteem, self-efficacy and adjustment to school life for children and adolescents in a community child care center. 28 participants were assigned to the EAP/EFP program group (n=14) and the wait-list control group (n=14). The EAP/EFP program was administered a total of 12 sessions over an 8-week period. Results showed that in comparison to the wait-list control group, participants of the EAP/EFP program showed a significant increase in self-esteem, self-efficacy and adjustment in school life as well as a significant decrease in majority of the sub scales of child behavior checklist for teachers. This study demonstrates the significant impact of the EAT/EFP program on treatment and proposes it as an alternative treatment approach for children and adolescents.
